Indie Weekends: Sixteen92 Spring Collection Review

Even though I haven't had the best luck with Sixteen92 I had to order the Spring Collection, because everything sounded like it would be perfect! There were 5 perfumes in the collection, 2 of those also came in a lotion, along with quite a few other spring lotion scents. I had to get everything, it all sounded amazing!

AboutSixteen92 is a newer indie company, owned by Claire and based in Texas, that specializes in perfume. They also recently introduced their bath and body product line, including shower gel and hand & body lotion.

Shipping - I placed my order the first day this collection went up for sale. It shipped 13 days later and arrived in 2 days via USPS Priority 2-day from Texas to California.

Product Size - All of the products I am reviewing are available in a sample or full size version. I ordered samples for everything, but the perfume samples are 2ml vials, and full size perfumes are 5.5ml. The hand & body lotion samples are 1 oz jars, and the full sizes are 4 oz jars.

Free Samples - I received two free perfume samples with my order.

Hand & Body Lotion:

Almond Tea Cakes - "Sweet vanilla cakes with fluffy almond icing."

A lot of almond scents have a tendency to turn to cherries for me, but this one is pure almond. It smells like an almond biscotti I had recently. It's really lovely, if you're into almond scents, this one is a great quality. On the skin, it's quite a sweet bakery type scent.

Blood Orange & Vanilla - "Creamy vanilla swirled with tart blood orange - a lovely warm-weather gourmand, reminiscent of orange creamsicles or gourmet orange sherbet."

I have another favorite blood orange and vanilla scent, which this one is very different from. I get quite a bit of orange rind bitterness to this scent up front. But once it's on the skin, it's pretty authentic. Blood orange and vanilla. Not bitter, and not too sweet either.

Frosted Lemon Pound Cake - "Lemon butter cake with a sugared Meyer lemon icing glaze. Tart, sweet and rich."

This smells like lemony cake-y goodness! On the skin, it's very good. It's got a great lemon note, and a great cake note as well. You can tell it's good quality, and I'm always a fan of lemon scents, so this one works for me.

Sucre Vanille - "Raw sugar, vanilla and a light floral musk with a splash of sweetened coconut milk."

This is basically a really sugary vanilla scent. Each of the jars have a safety seal under the lid, and I wanted to note that this scent almost dissolved the seal. It was all soggy and the red writing on the top of the seal transferred to the inside of the lid. I really love the vanilla in this one, if you want a pure sort of vanilla lotion, this is it!

The Grass Harp - "Orange blossom, clover, hyacinth, ruby red grapefruit, sweet basil."

This might be the first time a scent reminded me of a cleaning product, but in a good way. It stings the nose a little with the grapefruit and basil. On the skin I get more floral from the hyacinth and orange blossom. The fresh greens of clover and basil. There's a touch of citrus mingled in from the grapefruit. But like I said, all together, it smells like a cleaning product.

The Orchard Keeper - "Night blooming jasmine, peach, apricot, pink pepper, sandalwood."

This smells quite strongly of peaches at first. Once it's on the skin I can more easily pick out jasmine and maybe the sweetness of apricots, but I don't really get the other notes. OK, maybe very vaguely a but of pepperiness. I really love jasmine scents, so I was hoping that note would have been more prominent in the lotion, but I didn't get much of it.

White Grapefruit & Peach - "A sparkling cocktail of white grapefruit juice and white peach nectar. A light and subtle citrus zing pairs nicely with sweet peach and a hint of champagne fizz."

When I was originally opening all of these and I quickly smelled them, I anticipated this one being my favorite of the bunch. It's kind of strong in the jar, so I was surprised that it was quite subdued on the skin. It definitely feels like a Bath & Body Works scent though, fruity and citrusy. The peach note does smell very high quality though, very juicy.

Quite honestly, I thought I would dislike more of these lotion scents than I did. I haven't had much luck with Sixteen92 scents working for me, but these were spot on for spring. Or anytime of year really, because they were all really great quality and I really enjoy the Sixteen92 lotion formula. The lotion itself isn't greasy in the slightest, and is kind of thin, but sinks into your skin very quickly. Even The Grass Harp which I didn't like much in the jar, smells pretty good on the skin. I am utterly thrilled with my decision to purchase all of these lotion scents, I can easily recommend them to anyone looking for spring lotions.

The Grass Harp - "Orange blossom, clover, hyacinth, ruby red grapefruit, sweet basil."

On the skin, this immediately has that same cleaner smell that the lotion does. But it transforms quickly into more of a green floral, and I think the clover dominates the greenness of it. Most of the cleaning product smell goes away on dry down, but I don't smell much else other than the clover. There's a hint of floral, but I don't get much of it. And this one was pretty much gone under an hour, so you'll probably have to put quite a bit on for it to have much effect.

The Heart Is A Lonely Hunter - "Tuberose absolute, soft skin musk, oakmoss, fresh earth, vanilla, iris."

Oh this is quite lovely, it's basically a freshly tilled garden scent mixed with vanilla, and musk. Which I love all of those kinds of notes, but it comes together so compellingly. This one I would definitely wear a lot, and I was hoping that would be the case when I first saw the notes for this one. I had an idea that it might be good, but it ended up being better than my first expectations.

The Orchard Keeper - "Night blooming Jasmine, peach, apricot, pink pepper, sandalwood."

I get a bit of the peach and pepperiness of this one right off the bat. I love jasmine, so I remember when I ordered hoping this one would be my favorite, but I don't smell much jasmine. It's a better peach scent than a jasmine scent, so if that's what you're looking for, this is a good perfume for that.

The Sound And The Fury - "Southern sweet tea, Carolina jessamine, balsam, fern, warm skin musk, loam."

At first this smelled really fruity, and then it transforms into more of a woodsy scent. I think what I'm mostly picking out is the sweet tea and balsam, and possibly the fern, but the other notes are foreign to me. Loam is a type of soil. I can't tell if I like this scent or dislike it. It seemed to wear off pretty quickly though, and it wasn't too strong.

Wise Blood - "Champaca absolute, tuberose, white pepper, orris root, guaiacwood, cardamom."

I don't know what a lot of these notes are supposed to smell like on their own, but I can pick out cardamom. This scent is very spicy, and probably my least favorite. This one I could definitely see being a headache trigger for some, it's jarring to the senses. But this one does also dissipate quickly. After a while, the spiciness goes away, and I get a sweeter scent, but I'm not sure which note is causing that.

Overall, I loved the lotion scents, but the perfumes were a bit hit or miss for me. My favorites from the lotions were Sucre Vanille and White Grapefruit & Peach, but really I liked all of them. I think The Orchard Keeper could be the new Lolita scent for Sixteen92, it has a similar tangy fruitiness that it seems hit a chord with customers, since Lolita the most popular scent Claire carries. I unofficially tried Black Sugar, which was one of my free samples, and I love it. It's a darker, very sugary vanilla scent, similar in vein to Sucre Vanille, but more complex and rich. As for the perfumes, my favorite was The Heart Is A Lonely Hunter, which was also a bit of a surprise to me, I didn't expect to like that one as much as I did.

Customer Service - I did not have to contact customer service regarding any problems with my order.

Availability - The spring perfumes and lotion scents will be around for a while. They will eventually go away for summer scents I suspect, so grab them now!

Overall Satisfaction - My favorite lotions were Sucre Vanille and White Grapefruit & Peach. My favorite perfume was The Heart Is A Lonely Hunter. I enjoyed this collection, mostly the lotions, but I would recommend to anyone who hasn't had luck with other Sixteen92 collections to try a few from this collection.
