Birchbox and Ipsy Glam Bag Reveal Day for August

It's finally reveal day for Birchbox and Ipsy, usually Birchbox reveals on the 10th what you'll be getting in your box(es) if you're so inclined to spoil the surprise, but Ipsy changes the date almost always. This month Ipsy had a special thing where if you did some social media tasks, you could open your Glam Room early. So early, sneak peeks weren't even done! But this will be my last Ipsy bag, read on to find out why. But if you've been reading my blog for a while, you probably already know ;)

August Birchbox Reveal:
I have heard some had a different box on their account than what they actually received. My box is at home, but I am not, so I don't know for sure if this is right. If this happened to you though, review your products on the box page for points, then email Birchbox to change it to the correct box. I will update this if I find out what I actually received was different.

Box #19:

Noir Long-Wear Eyeliner - Going straight up for trade, I can't believe I'm getting another black eyeliner from Birchbox. Certainly won't be the last, that's for sure.

Benefit It's Potent! Eye Cream - Ehh, I have so much eye cream, that I don't know if I'll use this.

amika Perk Up Dry Shampoo - Yay, the one thing in this box that I wanted. I love dry shampoo and I've heard so many good things about amika.

Naobay Body Radiance Lotion - Got this last month on another account, and while the grapefruit smell is nice, I really don't love it enough to keep this. Another item to trade.

Dr. Jart+ Dis-A-Pore Beauty Balm - I am meh on this, I might try it, I might not. My pores aren't that noticeable, and I kind of liked the dr. brandt Pores No More, but I'll have to see if I can find a review of this before trying it.

Overall, kind of a punishment box for me. Who am I kidding, any box with a black eyeliner is a punishment box! I need to tweak my profile on this account, I keep getting duds on it.

August Ipsy Reveal: AKA my last Ipsy bag :(

Glamglow Youthmud Tinglexfoliate Treatment - I haven't heard the greatest things about this, I may have to read some more reviews before opening it.

Urban Decay Perversion Mascara - I did actually want to try this, so I'm a little excited about mascara? Who am I, I don't even know anymore.

Jersey Shore Sun Mongongo Lip Conditioner - ($5.50) Just glad I didn't get the grape lip balm that some got this month.

Lord & Berry Silk Kajal Kohl Eye Pencil - Oh hey, two black eyeliners this month between Birchbox and Ipsy...I DO NOT NEED MORE BLACK EYELINER!

Manna Kadar Cosmetics Sheer Glo - I don't like these kinds of products, this is going up for trade.

Overall, I think the thing I'm most excited for is a Coastal Scents discount code. And maybe the mascara because I actually want to try it, and I missed out on the free one they were giving out.

This will be my last Ipsy bag. I am canceling, for various reasons, mostly due to poor quality products, products I don't need or use, and I don't want to support their company any more. The product quality doesn't seem to matter to them, as their customer retention is just a revolving door. As soon as someone cancels, there is someone on the wait list waiting to get in. And that kind of customer model is not going to give them any incentive to change what they are doing. They can just keep getting cheap products, or leftover products from companies I would never buy anything from, and people will still pay for it. People think "$10/month for a makeup bag" when they look at Ipsy, but it's usually a bag full of crap. As we've seen with the Be A Bombshell Mascara, and POP Beauty Lip Gloss, they don't seem to care about their customers wellbeing. As many others have said, I could take my $10 to Ulta, and come up with something better than what I'm being sent. I've said this before, but I will still post sneak peeks and the spoilers. Just not my bag review.

What products are you getting this month? Anything you're particularly excited (or unexcited) to try? Let me know in the comments!

Birchbox is only $10 a month and they send you 5-7 (usually sample size) products. They have a great points rewards system where you can review your box contents every month, and get points that can be redeemed on the store. 100 points = $10 to spend on the Birchbox store!

Ipsy Glam Bag is $10 a month. They include 4-5 beauty products each month along with a cosmetic bag to carry all your goods in! If you haven't yet you can subscribe here, and skip the wait list!

  1. I'd actually go straight for the eye cream! Maybe because I'm running low on mine... Otherwise, the Dr Jart looks amaze! Oh, speaking of skincare, have you ever heard of Vain Pursuits? I think they're similar to ipsy and birchbox but more for skin products?

    1. I haven't heard of it, but I'll have to check it out!

  2. I am also not a big fan of the way people talk on the ipsy home page. If you complain your comment gets deleted. But not before all the ipsters complain about your lack of gratitude. Exploding eyeliner and rancid mascara are valid reasons to be unhappy. You are not allowed to mention any of the competitors even if you aren't promoting it just noting differences and similarities. And if you threaten to quit you are told to shut up because of all the poor souls trapped on the waitlist purgatory who would love to receive yet another plastic bag full of black eyeliner and beach spray. I was also about to quit but figured I'd give them one last chance. So far I like what I am seeing in my glam room so I may stick around.

    1. Yeah I think it lacks professionalism if you're just deleting everything bad ever said about you. My biggest problem with the bags were that even on months that seemed "good" there always seemed to crop up a quality control problem, or things were packaged correctly and broke, and items that seemed exciting at first, turned out to be lackluster upon arrival.
