Indie Subscription: Aromaleigh March 2015 Ephemera Review

It seems mine and everyone else's Aromaleigh Ephemera arrived yesterday! I was looking forward to seeing what was in store this month, it was more subdued than last month. And I actually went almost entirely spoiler free for once in my life, so that was pretty exciting. I was so tempted to look at the spoilers until I realized my mail was being delivered before noon for the first time in a while. I loved the look I came up with! I was like, oh hey I can makeup!

AboutAromaleigh opened back in 1998, and was one of the first indie cosmetic companies to be started. Kristen is the owner, and is based in South Carolina. They offer a few fandom related collections, including Hannibal, Sherlock, and the Hunger Games, but most of their collections are historically and mythologically inspired. The monthly Ephemera subscription began January 2015.

Shipping - My box ships on the 2nd of each month, and then this month's arrived 2 days later via USPS from South Carolina to California.

Product Size - This month's products were all minis, and the bonus samples were all sample sized.

Free Samples - This month's box included one free sample from Kiss My Sass, and two bonus sample products from Aromaleigh.

All eyeshadow swatches are done over Too Faced Shadow Insurance primer. Blush swatch is done over bare skin and blended out.

The very informative info card. I love the designs at the top.

The Swedish Fish were devoured immediately!

Ragnarök - "A deep, warm reddish brown with gold/green interference shimmer."

This was the shade we got a sneak peek of last month, and I think it's a very versatile dark shimmery brown. It would be perfect as an all over the lid color, or also in the crease like I did in my look.

Valhalla - "A soft pale weathered gold with strong blue interference sparkle."

I decided to use this shade over Pixie Epoxy all over my lid as the base color. I think it worked beautifully paired with Ragnarök.

Valkyrie - "An easy-wear, soft warm rose shade. Your cheeks but better."

When I was brainstorming ways to combine the products this month into a look, I thought this would also make a lovely transition shade above the crease. So I used it for that, as well as a blush in my look. I think it turned out wonderful, I love this as a blush too. Just be careful, it's really pigmented! I actually swatched it a little heavier than I intended too, so use only a tiny bit!

Yggdrasil - "A midtown heather green with copper interference shimmer."

I couldn't quite decide how I wanted to use this shade for my look, but I finally settled on foiling it as a liner. I was a little nervous because I am fairly bad at liner, hence why I barely wear it. But I was able to keep a steady hand and attempt a fairly reasonable wing.

Kiss My Sass Daydream - "A sheer pale pink glow."

I was going to use this as a topper over another lipstick for my look, because it's unremarkable by itself. Other than it gives you some shininess and a slight pink sheen. But I didn't know what to wear it over. I should have probably added some Valkyrie over the top of this to bring everything together, but instead I just used something not from this box on my lips in the look. This lip glaze smells like peppermint though, quite yummy.

Carina - *Sneak peek from the Galactic collection*

I am so excited for this Galactic collection, which is releasing in March and April. I've been getting more into duochromes via Femme Fatale, and I would love some beautiful duochromes from Aromaleigh too. Especially since the shipping is much quicker to the US! I can't wait to throw this on over some Pixie Epoxy to really make it shine.

Next Month's Hint - *Sneak peek at next month's Ephemera*

This shade is a hint for next month's theme, something to do with an ancient Roman festival which was celebrated in April. I looked around, there were several festivals celebrated then, so I'm not going to try to guess. I'll just wait and see! This shade had a bit of a green sheen, not quite as strong a duochrome as Carina, but I imagine it will look pretty good over a sticky base.

So...I thought the lip product in the box was kind of boring, so I decided to use something else for my lips. It's the amazing and wonderful Shiro Smelt of Elderberries lipgloss, available on Femme Fatale.

I really liked the look and I couldn't decide on the photos. I just had to use all the ones I liked. Such a pretty neutral eye with a pop of color with the eyeliner.

Close up of my banging wing. I was so proud. I can never do good wings, never mind get them fairly even on both sides. I think I nailed it.

A run down of what I did to achieve this look: Aromaleigh Lucina as the brow highlight, Valkyrie as the transition shade, Ragnarök as the crease and outer corner shade, Valhalla over Pixie Epoxy all over the lid, and Yggdrasil foiled with Glamour Doll Eyes Foil Me as the eyeliner.

For the look I used:
  • Face -
    • Miguhara BP Cream
    • Clinique Superbalanced Foundation in shade Breeze
    • Hello Waffle Finishing Powder
  • Lips -
    • Shiro Smelt of Elderberries
  • Cheeks -
    • Aromaleigh Valkyrie
  • Eyes -
    • theBalm Put A Lid On It primer
    • Aromaleigh Lucina
    • Aromaleigh Ragnarök
    • Aromaleigh Valhalla
    • Aromaleigh Valkyrie
    • Aromaleigh Yggdrasil
    • Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy
    • Glamour Doll Eyes Foil Me
    • Urban Decay Perversion Mascara

Overall, this month's box had a total value of $24.50 including the two free bonus samples we received and the lip glaze from Kiss My Sass. I don't know if I could decide on a favorite shade this month, just because I loved how well they all paired together. I really love the blush though, Valkyrie is such a lovely rosy peachy shade. And I love that it worked so well as a transition shade, and I bet it would look great over the gloss as well. I can definitely see myself trying this same look again, it didn't take too long, and it would work for numerous occasions. I really loved this month, the versatility of everything makes this probably my favorite month of the Ephemera to date.

Customer Service - I did not have to contact customer service regarding any problems with my box.

Availability - This month's subscription is no longer available, but subscriptions may be available for next month, depending on how many cancellations there are. Just check their Facebook page or group for more information.

Overall Satisfaction - I really loved Valkyrie, but everything was my favorite this month. I can't wait to see what April brings (my birthday month!)
