Indie Weekends: Black Violet Spring Collection Review

Black Violet introduced their Spring collection without a lot of fanfare, but I knew I had to get the 4 scents to try! Especially because one was supposed to be very similar to my absolute favorite Black Violet perfume, Paper Dolls. And I have a bonus perfume review, I also purchased the full size Adventures Taken, which was originally a custom perfume made for a customer, but is now available to purchase.

AboutBlack Violet is owned by Leilani, and they are an indie perfumery and bath and body shop based out of Maryland. Black Violet offers perfume oils in sample sizes and full size rollerballs, body butters, creme soap, detangling mists, facial cleansers, and a few other kinds of products.

Shipping - I already had another open order, so this one shipped relatively quickly compared to the normal 14-21 business day turnaround time. It shipped 5 days after I ordered, and arrived in 4 days via USPS from Maryland to California.

Product Size - Perfume minis are bottled in 1 dram vials, and free samples with orders come in 5/8 dram bottles.

Free Samples - I always receive at least one free sample with every order. Sometimes it's a perfume sample, other times it's another kind of product.

Candy Rocket - "Candy-fueled fruits propel into the atmosphere like a capsule full of fireworks. Mandarin Orange slices, Red & Black Raspberry gummies, Red Currant bon bons, Blueberry candy sticks, Pink Grapefruit sours and Lime taffy."

This perfume was being given out like candy, as samples in my recent orders. I was just giving my extras to friends because I didn't need more than the sample size. It's extremely fruity. I couldn't pick out any of the individual candy scents, but more like it smells similar to Celebration if you got that one. It's not really my jam, I don't care much for really fruity scents, but it's definitely sweet and candy filled if you like that.

Clouds of Glass - "Laying still beneath a gravel-toned sky, they awaited the prickling of rain against their skin. After the storm, their bodies were soaked in a field of leaves and petals. Key notes: Rain, Cyclamen, Basil, Fresh Cut Leaves and Daffodils."

This smells really clean, almost like a laundry dryer sheet. I can pick out rain and some florals, but it mostly reminds me exactly like a laundry detergent or dryer sheet scent. And I get a hint of the basil, super clean smelling, very fresh. I like it, will definitely be wearing this if we ever get any spring rain.

Ginger & Lace - "Wisps of apricot hairs rise thru vintage Limerick lace draping her skin. Soft-spoken, yet intoxicating. Keynotes: Soft Musk, Ginger Lily, Coconut Milk and Apricot."

This scent has been named as one to get if you like Paper Dolls, which I love. It's in the same vein, soft, subtle, a bit milky. This will probably quickly become a favorite. It's a bit fruity in the background with the apricot, and a bit floral. It feels like a more tropical version of Paper Dolls if that makes sense.

Greenwitch - "Her connection to the trees, herbs, plants, flowers, especially the forest has never been stronger. (A robust unisex fragrance) Key notes: Osmanthus, Oakmoss, Bergamot, Wormwood, Petitgrain, Vetiver, Clary Sage."

This one was fairly herbally, but also has a bit of a floral undertone. It's very unisex, I could imagine guys wearing it, but that bit of floral gives it a slight feminine edge. It's my least favorite of the bunch I think, but only because it doesn't really have any notes that I particularly like in a perfume.

Bonus: Adventures Taken - "Floral with a smooth musk~ feminine with vintage flair. It has an exquisite Lilac accord, Delphinium, Hyacinth, a very light but sweet musk & a whisper of Jasmine."

I'm missing the photo of this, but I recently received a sample and I had ordered a full size before I knew I was receiving a sample. I anticipated liking it, and I do! This has a soft floral scent, mixed with white musk. It's a very grownup feminine type of scent, but not old lady either. I really liked this one, it's kind of in the same vein as Ginger & Lace and Paper Dolls, but without the milkiness those two have. Similar in it's soft florals that aren't overbearing at all.

Overall, I thought this recent spring collection from Black Violet was well rounded, but I didn't find anything that I was overwhelmed with. I really liked Ginger & Lace, but I think I still love Paper Dolls more. Clouds of Glass again was nice, but I probably would not be reaching for it everyday. Candy Rocket and Greenwitch are just not my types of fragrance. I will say, Clouds of Glass would make an awesome creme soap, but unfortunately I think Candy Rocket is the scent that is most in other products. I think the real winner for me was Adventures Taken, so if you have the means to get that, I would highly recommend it! And proceeds of that perfume purchase go to the Angel Foundation, which is a non-profit helping families when cancer strikes. There is something for everyone in this collection though, so it just depends on what you like!

Customer Service - I did not have to contact customer service regarding any problems with my order.

Availability - All of these perfumes are still available for purchase. They will eventually be gone after the summer release.

Overall Satisfaction - My favorites were Ginger & Lace and Adventures Taken. Not my favorite overall perfume collection, but there's a little something for everyone. You can pick and choose as needed.
