Birchbox January 2014 #1 Review

My January 2014 Birchbox finally arrived, you may remember from my first and last Birchbox December 2013 review, I had cancelled my subscription after January. Well, I'm here to say Birchbox won me back with this month's box, not just necessarily based on what I received, but collectively saw that this month they were trying to send more full size products in their boxes. I resubscribed because I wanted to make sure I got February's US Weekly collaboration box. I've also adjusted my style profile to see if I receive more full size products. This is the first box of my two subscriptions.

I received box #19 (you can see what number box you received if you go to your box page, while logged in, then click on the link for that month's box. You'll see the number at the end of the link on that page when you're logged in).

Here's what I received in this box, along with approximate dollar value of sizes I received:
  • Nail Rock in Red Glitter - ($7) I'm excited to try this although I've been hearing the glitter gets all over the place even after your nails dry. I'll definitely be adding a top coat to this. Glad to see a full size product in my box though! I am glad I got this color though because I don't have a good red nail polish color, so if I want to skip the glitter, the polish alone will be nice to have around.
  • Klorane Gentle Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk - ($6) I am a big proponent for not washing your hair everyday, so I'm anxious to try this to see if it makes a difference in unwashed hair. EDIT*: It totally does! I'm thinking about ordering this when I have enough points!
  • 100% Pure Fruit Pigmented Mascara in Black Tea - ($7.50) I'm not very adventurous with makeup products, but mascara is one I can always use more of! It smells great and goes on smooth and isn't clumpy. I'll be using all of this!
  • Ahmad Teas Assorted Teas - ($0.50) This was the lifestyle extra and I like tea and coffee, so I'm happy to have these at night when it's a little colder. California weather, we've been missing out on the big snow storm the rest of the country is suffering, but it gets kind of cold at night. These will be good for the nights when I want coffee but know I shouldn't or I'll never get to sleep.
  • Juara Candlenut Body Creme - ($0.75) We'll see about this one, my skin doesn't get very dry, and I can't stand greasy lotion or anything strongly scented. May be one I hand off to my mom. This is the only one I'm not thrilled with. It's not too greasy and it smells ok, it may give me a headache after a little while though.
All totaled up my box was worth about $21.75 and I only paid $10 for this box. I was definitely happy to see a full size product in my box, which is why I resubscribed. This month's box was better than December because I didn't really like about half the stuff in that box. I am happy no perfume in this box, and like I said before I'm getting another January box after adjusting my style profile in hopes for some of the eye shadow I've seen other people getting. Or the headband, I wouldn't mind one of those.

I am disappointed to see no Birchbox Finds in my box this month. I saw other people got some Burt's Bees Lotion, but apparently box #19 didn't get a Finds this month. I also noticed that most boxes were only 5 products this month instead of 6. I think I'm ok with this as long as it means more of the products are full size or at least bigger than a foil packet. And I'm going to be honest, the little cards they included with everyone's box this month were pretty lame. Can't believe I'll say this, but I would have gotten more use out of a foil packet sample. I won't use them, I'm actually going to toss them now.

Birchbox is only $10 a month and they send you 5-6 (usually sample size) products. If you really like the sample, they offer the full size version on their shop for you to purchase. Like I said, I had decided to cancel before receiving January's box, but they've won me back, and I've adjusted my style profile to hopefully get more full size products.

If you're signing up, be sure to enter code USWEEKLY100 when you check out for 100 points to your account, which is equal to $10! Same price as the box!
