Birchbox July 2014 #1 Review

Birchbox did something a little different this month, where they let many people pick a sample for one of their items. It was between three Ruffian polishes, or two different Cynthia Rowley lip stains. I went for the Ruffian polish in Ambrosia, and it seemed to me the boxes with these samples in it, were some of the better boxes this month, so I was happy to get my polish!

Birchbox is shipped via Newgistics and delivered USPS. This month's box arrived in 7 days from Tennessee to California.

This month's box was a collaboration with Women's Health.

Info card. I have to admit, I keep all of my subscription box info cards. They've come in handy a few times, so that's how I'm justifying it. Yeah.

Beauty Protector Protect & Treat Hair Mask - ($6.50) I really like the other Beauty Protector products, so I can't wait to try this. It smells just like their other products which it's an addictive scent!

RUFFIAN Nail Lacquer in Ambrosia - ($11) I saw the other colors offered this month, and felt that this one was going to be the best choice for me. And I really love these polishes, they're super opaque in one coat, and this color is like a metallic lilac color. Very pretty, I can't wait to use it.

LAQA & Co. Sheer Lip Lube Pencil in Menatour - ($12.50) I actually like this product and the color is sheer but buildable. But I already have one, and I don't know if I use it enough to warrant keeping a backup, so this might be swapped.

Balance Me Wonder Eye Cream - ($19) Ahh, eye cream, another thing I have too much of. I'm trying it anyways though, but it's a little hard to tell how a certain skincare product works when you bounce around from product to product all the time. It's nice, I like the tube for application, much more precise than a jar.

RUFFIAN Dressing Room Nail Lacquer Remover Towelettes - ($1) I tried this and I liked them. They have a perfume scent, no nail polish remover scent that I could detect. They were able to get off glitter fairly well, but the sheet is black. If you've ever used these to remove a bright pink or red polish, and noticed that if you go over your finger with a spot stained with polish, it gets all over your skin. Well, if the sheet is black, it's a little hard to tell which sections have already been used. And these are pretty expensive. $12 for 10...yipes.

Real Chemistry Luminous 3-Minute Peel - ($5) Well, if you ever want to feel like your exfoliator product isn't doing a damn thing, then use this face peel! You start rubbing it in and big balls of dead skin start coming off with it. At first I was wondering if it was the product doing that, and then I realized, nope it's all the dead skin on my face! Gross, but holy cow was my skin soft and smooth after. This is a keeper, I may have to order this sometime.

Overall, my box this month on my main account had a total value of $55! That is definitely the highest value box I've ever received from Birchbox. I like the pick your sample concept, I just hope Birchbox can implement it in a way that makes it fun and easy whenever possible.

What did you think of July's Birchbox? Let me know in the comments!

Birchbox is only $10 a month and they send you 5-6 (usually sample size) products. If you really like the sample, they offer the full size version on their shop for you to purchase.

  1. You got an awesome Birchbox. I was late choosing an item last month so, I just got the regular surprise samples. I love when they send more makeup/cosmetic type items. My last few boxes have been mostly skincare related.

    1. Yeah I liked this box. Would have been a little more exciting if I hadn't already received the LAQA, but it wasn't bad!
