Memebox Special #39 Cafe Box Review

My Memebox Special #39 Cafe Box made it here, and of course I already saw the spoilers for this box beforehand. This box is the perfect example of how cultural differences can skew our opinion on how we think a box them is going to go, and then it arrives and we think "this is not at all what I was expecting." I think pretty much all of us who ordered this box, saw the photo and the description of this box, and thought coffee and caffeine products. But apparently to Memebox, Cafe means some strange place where they happen to serve coffee, desserts, ice cream, and donkey milk. Not that this makes it a bad box, but just that it sort of disappoints us all who were expecting coffee throughout the whole box. This box originally sold for $23 (plus $6.99 shipping) and is now sold out.

I ordered this Memebox standard shipped, which comes as Registered Mail delivered via USPS from Korea to California. This box took 19 days to arrive, and we're nearing the holidays. I don't even want to think about how long these will take when we get into Novemeber and heaven forbid December. All of my November and December shipped boxes will probably just all show up in January.

Vella Fresh Creamy Soap - (100ml full size/$13)

Ingredients: Not listed in English

Product description: "This whip cream-textured cleanser is enriched with deeply hydrating and soothing formula: donkey milk, 3 kinds of honey complex, and 4 kinds of floral extracts. Its highly concentrated and minutely fine creamy bubbles thoroughly cleanse away all skin impurities, and excess sebum while making sure to soothe, protect, and moisturize the skin so that its pH balance isn't broken during cleansing."

How to use: "Use your palms or a bubble net to lather the Fresh Creamy Soap. Without getting your palms to touch the skin, gently massage just the creamy bubbles onto your face. Rinse off with warm water."

My thoughts: I guess this was included in this box because it looks like whipped cream? I mean, yes many coffee places use whipped cream on some of their drinks, but I don't think this was what we were expecting or hoping for when we thought of a Cafe box. And it's another cleanser I have to get through eventually, I already have too many.

Tony Moly Latte Art Cappuccino Cream-In-Scrub - (95g full size/$13)

Ingredients: Glycerin, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Polyglyceryl-3 Methylglucose Distearate, Polysorbate 80, Sucrose, Milk Protein Extract, Colfea Arabica (Coffee) Seed Extract, Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Seed Extract, Hedera Helix (Ivy) Leaf/Stem Extract, Hemerocallis Fulva Flower Extract, Nymphaea Odorata Root Extract, Myriophyllum Spicatum Extract, Sansevieria Trifasciata Leaf Extract, Thymus Vulgaris (Thyme) Flower/Leaf Extract, Honey Extract, Glyceryl Stearate, Cetyl Alcohol, Cetearyl Alcohol, PEG-100 Stearate, Microcrystalline Wax, Lactose, Cellulose, Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose, Butylene Glycol, Acetyl Hexapeptide-8, Caffeine, Water, Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol, 1,2-Hexanediol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Fragrance

Product description: "Enriched with milk protein, caffeine, coffee extracts, and acetyl hexapeptide-8, the Latte Art Cappuccino Cream-In Scrub is a massaging-type facial scrub that works to effectively remove all skin impurities clogging up the pores, deliver rich nutrition, and firm up the skin elasticity all in one. This product is especially recommended for rough, darkened skin conditions suffering from dryness and white flakes."

How to use: "Spread out the scrub evenly over your un-wet face. Massage it gently for 3-5 minutes, and rinse off with warm water when the color of the scrub changes from brown to white. Most suitable to be used twice a week."

My thoughts: This is probably the one item in this box I'm most looking forward to using. The packaging is cute, it smells delicious, and is the only item in this box that has anything to do with coffee. I just wish we would have got at least one more actual coffee products, but I am glad this is a facial scrub, as I am running low on my current ones.

Holika Holika Dessert Time Lip Balm in 05 Plum Pink Cupcake - (7g full size/$6)

Ingredients: Not listed in English

Product description: "We've selected 3 most popular cupcakes from Holika Holika's adorably packaged Dessert Time Lip Balm series. The strawberry scented 01 Red Cupcake has a translucent red colored texture and offers a glossy radiance to your lips. The tined 03 Peach Cupcake is scented with a delicate peach fragrance and features peach colored, unjaded lips with a lasting color formation. Last but not least, the newly launched 05 Plum Pink boosts a refreshingly fruity cherry scent and a pop plum-pink colored tint."

How to use: "Spread the lip balm from the center towards the outer contours of your lip."

My thoughts: I guess this was included because some Cafes serve desserts and pastries? I can't pretend to understand Memelogic, but I don't care for this lip balm. I got the Plum Pink version, and it's not very moisturizing, I don't care for the bright pink tint, it stains, and it you have to dip your finger in it. My least favorite item from the box, I wish I could just only get skincare from these boxes, I hate when I get cosmetics.

Cleomee Anti-Wrinkle Donkey Lotion - (250ml full size/$83)

Ingredients: Not listed in English

Product description: "Cleomee's gentle and moisturizing formula consisting of donkey milk, hyaluronic acid, cermide, glycerin, vitamin E, and EGF complex delivers rich nutrition and replenishment deep down into your skin. Donkey milk and its milky goodness far exceeds cow's milk and even goat's milk in its similarity to mother's breast milk, and is also highly prized to have been the secret to Cleopatra's unfailing beauty and skincare."

How to use: "Apply the Anti-Wrinkle Donkey Lotion adequately over your face and body."

My thoughts: I don't understand what donkey milk has to do with a cafe, but for a giant bottle of $83 anti-wrinkle lotion that has a slight floral scent, I'll probably use this on my hands. The floral scent gives way to a weird sour milk scent, and then that recedes again to the floral.

Pure Smile Original Mask Sheet in Green Tea - (23ml full size/$1)

Ingredients: Not listed in English

Product description: "The Herb Mask Sheet is infused with lavender extracts, hyaluronic acid, vitamin E, and collagen, and works to relieve and moisturize the skin, while the Green Tea Mask Sheet contains abundant green tea extracts for maintaining the skin's moisture/oil balance and its firmness."

How to use: "Place the mask sheet evenly over your face. Rest for 15-20 minutes, remove, and pat in the remaining mask essence for full absorbance."

My thoughts: Yay a green tea mask sheet! Green tea is one of those weird ingredients that I don't really care for as a drink, but I want it in my skincare because I like the scent. I know, I'm weird. But I'm excited to use this, and I'm glad I didn't get the herb mask version.

Binu Cook Ice Cream Scoop Cacao Body Soap - (70g full size/$3)

Ingredients: Not listed in English

Product description: "Shaped and smells like a scoop of delicious chocolate ice cream, this 100% natural, hand-made soap bar will cleanse away all excess oil, sebum, and dead skin cells from your face and body, and leaves the skin feeling nice and supple."

How to use: "Wash your skin with warm water to open up the pores. Lather enough foams with your hands and massage it gently over your skin. Rinse off with warm water and double rinse with cold water to tighten back enlarged pores."

My thoughts: I don't think I've seen a cafe that serves ice cream, unless you're ordering an affogato, but the soap is cute. It smells like chocolate, so there you go.

Overall, the Memebox Special #39 Cafe Box had a total value of $119, most of which was the one donkey milk lotion item. I think this box could have used one more coffee related item to live up to our expectations, but it was an ok box. I'm most excited for the mask and the scrub, but I'll probably use everything else with the exception of the lip balm.

  1. I love memebox reviews. There are a million boxes out there and I never get tired of reading about them. I've now ordered like 5 or 6 memeboxes and I haven't even gotten one yet. I should really settle down. Tho a few have shipped! I'll leave a comment here when they finally come and I've reviewed them on my blog. (If you're interested!)
