Indie Weekends: Shiro Cosmetics Seven Kingdoms Collection Review

Happy Game of Thrones premiere night! I wanted to have a review that went along with this joyous occasion and decided on the Shiro Cosmetics Seven Kingdoms Collection! It's inspired by Game of Thrones, and so I grabbed the sample set to swatch and review. There are 15 eyeshadows and one lip gloss that make up the set.

AboutShiro Cosmetics is an indie makeup company based out of Oregon, that focuses on geeky themed collections inspired by some of our favorite fandoms, including Pokemon, Game of Thrones, Avengers, and others. They offer sample bags, mini jars, and full size jars, and every month they have a color of the month that is voted on by their Facebook page fans.

Shipping - My order shipped 10 days after I purchased, and arrived in 3 days via USPS from Oregon to California.

Product Size - This collection is available to purchase in samples, mini jars, or full size jars. The lip gloss is only available as a sample or full size.

Free Samples - I always receive 2 free samples with every order.

All eyeshadow swatches are done over Too Faced Shadow Insurance primer.

Climbing Chaos - "Rich velvety brown with a warm metallic copper-bronze shine."

This is a nice shade, although nothing too unique about it. It's a medium brown with a bronze sheen.

Gift of Mercy - "Blackened plate-steel grey shot through with hints of orange fire."

This looked like a black base with lots of red and purple sparks. By now you probably know how I feel about eyeshadows with a black base, and this one wasn't that exciting.

Here I Stand - "Rich earthy brown-black shimmering with the green of House Mormont."

This one is supposed to be a brown black base and you can see the green sheen. Again, the base is too dark for my liking.

Hodor - "Medium near-matte taupe."

The base taupe shade is matte, but it has a lovely blue sheen to it. I really like this shade, it would work well for a lot of looks.

I Loved A Maid - "Green-shifting gold shining out over a base of softened Lannister crimson."

This one was an exciting surprise swatching it, it looks more like an orange base with a strong green shift. Quite interesting, it might be an orange I might actually like.

Little Bird - "Delicate matte mauve/beige pink."

This shade was the closest to completely matte, and it looks kind of like a salmon pink shade.

Maiden Queen - "The brilliant emerald of Highgarden, with bright aqua shimmer and golden-rose sparks."

This one is so beautiful, you don't see this color as a shadow much. So vibrant and fun! It's a green leaning teal, but with lots of sparkle.

Master of Whispers - "Soft golden shimmer shining through pale lilac silk."

Another one I love, this is a pale pink with a bit of purple and a pinkish sheen.

Mother of Dragons - "Silvered royal purple over a blood-red base."

This shade is a brownish red with blueish purple sheen. Pretty, but not that unique anymore. I've seen a few shades similar to this one.

No Men Like Me - "Gold-burnished plate cloaked in ashy white."

I thought at first when I looked at this shade in the bag it was going to be a matte light brown shade, but it surprised me with the beautiful metallic gold! Like the description says, it's covered in a coat of ash that makes it not as shiny.

Queensgard - "The matte orange-brown of House Selmy, softened with gentle cream shimmer."

Definitely a dark matte orange brown, but I didn't see any shimmer with this one.

Red Wedding - "Very opaque blood-red."

I used a lip brush to apply this shade, and it worked well. You can see it does feather, which I sort of expected. It's an intense and opaque blood red shade though, I really like it.

Salt And Stone - "Blackened green of House Baratheon, shining with the red light of R’hllor."

This is a dark forest green base shade with a red sheen on top that gives it almost an oil slick rainbow sort of look.

Valar Morghulis - "Pure black shining with metallic white overlay."

A black base with tons of silver sparkles. Gives it a peppery gray sort of look.

Women's Weapons - "Strong red wine with soft golden shimmer."

I was a bit disappointed in this shade, it looks nothing like the website swatch. It doesn't look like red wine at all, but instead a dark matte red brown shade. And there was barely any golden shimmer.

You Know Nothing - "Cold wintery grey-white with bright icy shimmer."

This was a grayish white shade with a blue sheen. Just a perfect color to be inspired by Jon Snow, I couldn't have picked it better myself.

Overall, I thought this collection didn't quite live up to my expectations, but had quite a few nice shades in it. I have heard some consider this collection one of the must-own collections from Shiro Cosmetics and I have to disagree. There are too many dark shades for my liking, and three black base shades. I thought Queensgard and Women's Weapons looked really similar. I do like that there was a lip gloss included in this collection, but I think it also would have been nice to have a blush as well. So you could do an entire Game of Thrones look. My favorite shades were Hodor, Maiden Queen, Master of Whispers, and Mother of Dragons.

Customer Service - I did not have to contact customer service regarding any problems with my order.

Availability - This collection is permanent and always will be available for purchase.

Overall SatisfactionMy favorite shades were Hodor, Maiden Queen, Master of Whispers, and Mother of Dragons. This collection didn't quite live up to my expectations. I don't think it's necessary to own the whole thing, just a few select shades.

  1. I definitely agree with you that you don't need the entire collection! My favorites are Climbing Chaos (just a nice staple for me), Little Bird (really nice transition shade), I Loved a Maid (I just find this to be really unique and works wonders with my skin coloring), and Here I Stand (I find that this is just a nice dark shade, I don't have too many eyeshadows with a dark base because you only really need a a few and you're all sent and this is nice and blendable, also GREEN). I feel like this collection has some nice staple colors that supplement a lot of looks, but nothing really crazy unique that jumps out at you (apart from some of the colorful ones but I don't use shades like that enough to even justify having a sample). Great review as usual!

    1. Thank you! I will have to try a few like you say you do, Little Bird does look to be a great transition shade.
