Indie Subscription: Hello Waffle May 2015 Visage Review

May's Hello Waffle Visage arrived earlier this month, and I was so excited to try everything! To make up for the fairly warm tones we received the last few months, there were plenty of cooler tones and a high overall value this month. And a guest indie from a brand I haven't had a chance to try before!

AboutHello Waffle is an indie cosmetics company specializing in beautiful eyeshadow collections, blushes, and lip products, made by Christine, the owner. Hello Waffle is based in Canada, and currently has collections inspired by Archer, Fringe, famous musical composers, cats/literature, and a collection celebrating reaching 1000 Facebook likes. She also offers seasonal fairytale inspired collections that can be purchased in the season they are inspired by.

Shipping - Usually the Visage ships on the 5th of each month, but this month it was a bit delayed and shipped on the 11th. I received it 4 days later via USPS from Canada to California.

Product Size - Everything this month was mini sized.

Free Samples - There were no free samples included this month.

All eyeshadow swatches are done over Too Faced Shadow Insurance primer. Blush and highlight swatches are done over bare skin and blended out.

The super informative info card this month, I always enjoy reading Christine's commentary at the top about this month's box.

I don't usually include a package photo in my reviews, but I can't help myself with the Visage. It's always so pretty!

Angel of the Flower - ($3.41) "Flowery magenta with violet shift and blue sparks."

I love this pinkish purple shade, the info card suggests using this all over the lid. I think it will look great paired with any of the other colors this month.

Little Swallow - ($3.41) "Dark glossy navy with lighter turquoise shift and aqua twinkle."

I don't have really shimmery dark blues, and this one is a stunner. I used it like the info card says, in the outer corner and foiled as a liner.

Maia - ($3.41) "A creamy baby blue with orange shift and green sparkles."

I don't think I have ever heard of an orange shift, but now that I'm reading the description, I can kind of see it. This will be my first time using a colored shadow instead of a highlight shade as the inner corner shadow.

The Blind Neighbour - ($3.41) "Dark charcoal brown with subtle pink shift, and pink-ish purple sparks."

I am thankful this isn't black based, I love the purple sparkle paired with dark brown. The info card suggests smudging this under the lower lash line, which is just what I did.

Farewell, Bright Sun - ($5.54) "A medium satin mauve."

I am getting more used to using glittery blushes, but there is just something so classic like a nice satiny mauve blush. I absolutely love this shade, I can see myself wearing it all throughout the year. I think it will also make a good transition shade if you're so inclined.

Wings of a Fly($5.54) "Pale pink, with iridescent gold, purple, and green shimmer."

Just a lovely highlighter shade, and it's so soft and fluffy. This will make a great cheek highlight and brow highlight, which is just what I did for my look.

KaeQ Call Me Mama - ($7) "Sheer hot Barbie pink."

I think I was expecting this to be less sheer and more pigmented than it was, but I love the actual color it gives. Just a sheer wash of baby doll pink, which matches wonderfully with the rest of the colors and look.

Midsummer Dreams Apothecary Thumbelina - ($10) "Vanilla, marshmallow, sweet cream, honeysuckle, gardenia, tuberose."

This has quite a strong floral part to the soft vanilla and marshmallow notes. It's definitely right up my alley though because I love honeysuckle and gardenia. And the rollerball bottle for this is great, I've only ever tried a small sample vial before from Midsummer Dreams Apothecary, and this is such a pretty bottle. After dry down, you get more of the sweetness from the creamy notes, and with the florals it makes this such a lovely feminine scent. I found that this lasted quite a while on me, and after an hour or so started to remind me of Black Violet's Paperdolls, which I love. Definitely a winner for me!

For my look, I basically followed the example given on the info card sheet. I wanted to see how it would look with a pastel shade in the inner corner, and I think it ended up looking really beautiful.

Close up of the shadows. I may have blended too much, and actually made the shadows look a little patchy, but I also did this over just primer. I typically like to use Pixie Epoxy, but I wanted more of a blended ethereal look for this than I would get with a sticky base.

Dat liner though.

I usually do shorter, more stout liner wings, but I liked the longer, thiner look of this. And The Blind Neighbour smudged under the lower lash line was just the tiniest bit. I find that if I do thicker lines for that it tends to look too dramatic on me. So I smudged it and then removed a bit with a makeup remover soaked Q-tip. And as usual, it's a bit hard to see the blush, but the highlighter showed up quite well. I really like both of those products, I know I will be using them for quite a few looks.

For the look I used:
  • Face -
    • Miguhara BP Cream
    • Clinique Superbalanced Foundation in shade Breeze
  • Lips -
    • KaeQ Call Me Mama
  • Cheeks -
    • Hello Waffle Farewell, Bright Sun
    • Hello Waffle Wings of a Fly
  • Eyes -
    • theBalm Put A Lid On It primer
    • Hello Waffle Angel of the Flower
    • Hello Waffle Little Swallow
    • Hello Waffle Maia
    • Hello Waffle The Blind Neighbour
    • Hello Waffle Wings of a Fly
    • Glamour Doll Eyes Foil Me
    • Urban Decay Perversion Mascara

Overall, this month's Visage had a total value of $41.72, which is phenomenal! I just loved everything this month, although I think I would have preferred a different product instead of The Blind Neighbour shadow. I just didn't think it added much to the look, when I could have instead just used the other three shadows. But I loved the blush and highlighter, the Beso, and the perfume, they all will be products I will use time and time again. As usual, I can't wait to see what's in store for next month, I hope it's something that goes outside of Christine's comfort zone. I would love for there to be a few months where we get a product or two that is not the usual pink/purple/neutral shade.

Customer Service - I did not have to contact customer service regarding any problems with my subscription this month.

Overall Satisfaction - My favorites this month were Call Me Mama, Farewell, Bright Sun, Wings of a Fly, and Thumbelina. I also really loved Little Swallow.
