Fortune Cookie Soap Fall 2014 Soap Box Review

My Fortune Cookie Soap Fall Soap Box finally made it! I was so eager to get this finally, and start smelling everything! The Fortune Cookie Soap box is a quarterly subscription that is seasonal. So you subscribe, the box arrives right before the season it's for starts officially, then in about two weeks after the box arrives, they put the new collection of scents from the box on their website for everyone to purchase. Getting the box gives you a sneak peek of everything before anyone else can buy the products! The scents and products for the season are available for about three months, then they're replaced with the next season's offerings.

The box is shipped via USPS First Class, and I never got tracking for mine, it just showed up. But I think it only took 2-3 days from Oklahoma to California, just based on when they said they shipped most of the boxes.

The theme for Fall is "Witch, Please" with a combined Wicked/Wizard of Oz inspired collection.

The beautifully printed info card comes with the descriptions of each scent and product in the box. On the back of the card is also a unique $10 off code on your next Fortune Cookie Soap order. Many use it on the collection scents when they launch on the site after the boxes are shipped.

First look! You can see my fortune cookie soap melted a little. I did have an almost tragedy where I almost couldn't get my box out of my mail box. This has happened before to us where the back of our mail slots is bigger where the mail person puts the mail in, than the front which has a lip making it a little smaller. My box was stuck. I really didn't want to leave it in the heat until the next day when I would have to leave a note for our mail lady telling her again that one of the packages she shoved into our mail box can't come out on the other side. Luckily, a strong neighbor arrived to save the day and my box for me! I was also about to go to a beer fest and had on some wild makeup, so I'm sure the guy was wondering why the hell I was wearing so much makeup to get the mail...

Flying Monkeys Personal Space Air Freshener - "Mischief is in the air with this fruity, breezy blend of peach, watermelon, neroli and jasmine with air and aquatic notes. But the real star of this fragrance? Fresh, ripe bananas!"

I like this fragrance, it has a banana scent without being too fake and it doesn't stand out too much. You can smell some of the other fruitiness of the scent. And this is the first time I've tried their Personal Space products, so I will probably try using this in the car.

Roy G. Biv OCD Hand Sanitizer - ($2.89) "A full spectrum of bright citrus notes and florals against a cool fall background. Dusky breezes and bonfires, wind-blown leaves and charred woods brightened by notes of lemon, mandarin, cotton blossom and soft vanilla."

Because of the alcohol in the hand sanitizers, it's usually best to smell these on the skin because that's when you can smell the true scent. It's definitely a little woodsy, but the other notes definitely brighten it up, and keep it from being overpoweringly fall or manly. It's not too strong, definitely something I'll put in my purse once my Tree of Life OCD is done.

Hair Flip Hair Oil - "Strands of sweet hazelnut woven throughout rich, buttery vanilla cream."

Very sweet and it smells like hazelnut coffee creamer to me. But once it's in the hair it isn't that noticeable. I am always looking for some hair care products that fit into my routine of not doing much to my hair. Something like this hair oil might fit nicely with what I already do.

No Good Deed Whipped Cream - (~$3.25) "Creamy pumpkin puree, ground cinnamon, Vermont maple syrup, rum, french vanilla, and caramelized sugar."

There were four different whipped cream scents you could possibly get (BFFs, Green is the New Black, No Good Deed, or Wicked Good), and I don't know how I feel about this scent. I think I would have preferred a different one, something about the cinnamon in this makes me feel sick. The scent is really strong, and just may not be my thing. I think I would have preferred BFFs, which is the only one without a cinnamon note.

Swankified Walnut Facial Scrub - ("Bunches of ripe bananas mashed into sweet, sugary cake batter, then topped with walnuts and baked to a golden brown."

To me this just smells like cake batter, but I haven't yet found a facial scrub I love, so I'll be interested to see if this is my holy grail scrub!

The Shiz Perfume Oil - (~$3.75) "A woodland hike through damp balsam woods, with top notes of maple leaves blowing through new dawn blossom, laurel and sweet clove."

I think this is my favorite scent in the box, it's woodsy and spicy without being overpowering, and very unisex. I will not mind wearing this one on some cool Fall days.

Miss Popular Bubble Bath Powder - "The most delectable, sweet, honey nectar shamelessly flirting with touches of star anise, star jasmine, sweet orange and blushing violet."

I can definitely smell the star anise, which is not my favorite scent, but I'll be using this. Maybe only a little for one bath otherwise I worry the scent could be overpowering if I used the whole bag.

There's No Place Like Home Fortune Cookie Soap - (~$3.25) "Curled Macintosh apple peels lovingly kissed with a hint of cinnamon, allspice and clove."

I do like this scent, it is a very spicy apple scent, but I think the soap will get used. There is glitter in the soap, but as it's supposed to look like a ruby red slipper, I think they had to add the glitter.

Overall, I think the stand out scents for me were Flying Monkeys, Roy G. Biv, The Shiz, and the least favorites for me were Miss Popular, and No Good Deed. I knew going into this box that I might not like a lot of the scents, as I'm not big on super spicy fall scents, but I think there were a variety of fragrances, not all of them being your typical fall scents. I think this box was a good value as it's only $20 and you get a $10 off coupon for your next purchase, and you get a chance to try all the new scents before they land on the site. I do think that winter or spring scents might be more my thing though personally. Fall scents are just not always my cup of tea, and it can be hit or miss which ones I like. My one complaint is that not everything has a label, and if you were the forgetful type, you might not remember what a product was or what the scent was if you are storing it for some time.

The quarterly Fortune Cookie Soap box is $19.99 per quarter, and while the Fall box is sold out, the Winter soap box is shipping November 3rd, so if you'd like to subscribe, you can do so here.
