I remember seeing the Haus of Gloi Refresher Sprays sometime last year and was a little curious about them. And then when they were released again this year earlier this month, I wanted to try them all! So I grabbed one of each scent to test out and review for you.
About - Haus of Gloi is an indie bath and body company based in Oregon, and owned by Matt and Britton. They sell perfumes, scrubs, soaps, pumpkin butters, hair oils, lip balms, and a few other various products. Everything is handmade and their scents are their own original creations. They have a main line of scents that are sold year round, and then they have quarterly seasonal limited edition collections.
Shipping - My order shipped 3 days after I placed it, and arrived in 2 days via USPS 2-day Priority from Oregon to California.
Product Size - These sprays are only available in one size, which is a 4 oz spray bottle.
Free Samples - I received one free perfume sample with my order.
Buzz Off - "A 100% essential oil blend to keep those pesky biters away. Cedarwood, clove, lemongrass, the highest grade citronella, a touch of lavender and the secret weapon: catnip oil."
This has the same citronella scent that most bug sprays have, but it smells so much better. It's pretty strong though. I'm lucky that I don't get bit by mosquitos much, and with it being so dry in California, I don't think there are that many. So I can't really test it's effectiveness, but I have heard from friends that it seems to work well! I am curious to see how my cat will like it with the catnip in there! (I tried it, she didn't seem to notice or care. Probably not effective to wear to lure stray kitties home with you...I know, that's super disappointing.)
Chillax - "A blend of two vanillas, amber and Bulgarian lavender."
I just love the Haus of Gloi lavender note, and this one smells amazing. Lavender and vanilla is such a calming scent, and with the addition of the amber it really gives it that something else that it needs. This might be my favorite scent for these sprays.
Orange Orchard - "Orange blossom, vanilla and a bit of tonka bean."
Calling this orange orchard is a bit of a misnomer because I don't think orange blossoms smell like oranges at all. It's a bit sweet, but also kind of a bitter floral. It's really balanced out though, and not too strong. Probably my second favorite of the bunch.
Sea Spa - "A smooth and clean blend of salty sandalwood, oceanic notes, sage and jasmine tea. Finished with a touch of Moroccan orange blossom water."
This is a wonderful beachy fresh and clean scent that really does remind me of spa scents. It feels so cool on the skin too, these will be perfect for enduring the heat of summer. I did notice the fill line on this one is a little bit lower than the others. Also, this one is really strong. I think it will be perfect for linens, but use sparingly as a body mist.
Strawberry Rose - "Fresh strawberries and roses."
I think the rose is a bit stronger than the strawberries, but the sweetness from the fruit really balances out the florals. I think I like this one, it's a bit stronger on the rose than I had hoped, but I love strawberries, so I think it's ok.
Violet Marshmallow - "Violet flower, marshmallows and a touch of bergamot."
I don't much care for violets as I find they have a sharpness to them that is unappealing to me. The marshmallow and bergamot don't mask the sharpness, but this one isn't bad. Just not my cup of tea. I did notice this one is the least opaque of the bunch, I don't know what is causing that.
Overall, I think I'll be more likely to use these sprays for linens rather than a body spray, at least everything but Buzz Off. I found them to be kind of strong and long lasting on my skin, which is kind of good, but it was starting to give me a headache. You may want to use only a little on your skin, or at least try spraying them on your legs so they aren't right next to your nose (I sprayed them on my arms). I think my favorites are Orange Orchard and Chillax, but Sea Spa might be a favorite for linens only. Strawberry Rose and Violet Marshmallow were just too strong on the rose and violets respectively, to be something I'd really enjoy. And I'm kind of hoping I go somewhere where I'll need Buzz Off, because it is definitely more tolerable than traditional bug sprays.
Customer Service - I did not have to contact customer service regarding any problems with my order.
Availability - Most of these are currently sold out, but will be restocked tomorrow, June 29th.
Overall Satisfaction - My favorites were Chillax and Orange Orchard, and Sea Spa will be great for linens, especially in the summer. I think it's worth it to try at least one of these, depending on your scent preferences.
